Prestwood School

1.        Students must follow bike safety rules to and from school.  Parents will be notified if students are not following these safety rules, and students will have their bicycle privileges suspended.

2.        During school hours, students must walk their bikes on the school grounds and the sidewalk area in front of the school.

3.        Students must park and lock their bikes in the designated bike rack areas only.

4.        Students are not allowed in the bike area once bikes are parked and locked.

5.        Students shall not tamper with another person's bike.

6.        Student must obey all traffic safety laws and rules to and from school.

7.        All bicycles ridden to and parked at Prestwood School must be registered with the Sonoma Valley Police Department to reduce the threat of theft and to assist in their recovery should they be lost or stolen.

8.        Rules of the Road:

·          Helmets must be worn at all times.

·          Always stop at the stop signs

·          Ride with the automobile traffic, not against it.

·          Keep as close to the right side of the road as possible.

·          Ride solo and single file, never side by side.

·          Obey the crossing guard, do as they direct you to do.

·          Skateboards are not allowed at school. Any skateboard brought to school will be kept in the office until parents can come to get it.

Parking and Traffic Procedures

As we are all aware, drop off and pick up times are busy times at Prestwood.  The Sonoma Valley Police Department reminds parents of the following regulations.  These regulations are for the safety of children and parents coming to and from school:

1.        Children must cross at the crosswalk only.

2.        Parking is only allowed across the street from school on East Mac Arthur, up and down Oak St. and the 25 spaces beside the cemetery.  Please do not park to drop off or pick up students:  behind the Multi-Purpose Room, on the side of the school, or in the bus pick-up area!!

3.        Use the Loading Zone in front of the school to drop off and pick up children.  No Parking in the circle between 8:00-8:40 A.M. and 2:45-3:30 P.M. If your child is not out front, please drive around.

4.        No Parking in the Red Zones or Cross Walk

5.        The bus pick up is located down the eastern most driveway entrance to Prestwood.  Do not park in the bus loading area.

6.        Turning left into the circle during busy times is discouraged.

NOTE:  THE CIRCLE IN FRONT OF SCHOOL IS ONE LANE ONLY!

Disaster Procedures

In case of any type of disaster, the school has detailed procedures to follow in order to support the safety of students.  Fire drills and disaster drills are held periodically to acquaint students with proper procedures. 

In Case of an Emergency:

1.        Administration and staff will be responsible for students until parents arrive.

2.        Students will be released only to parents or authorized adults listed on school emergency cards.
